Dry Mature Aging Skin

Dry Skin

Everyone over the age of 25 years has a gradually maturing skin. As the skin ages, it becomes dry because the glands are less active and it loses its elasticity. The epidermis grows more slowly and so becomes thinner and facial contours change as muscle tone is lost. Blood circulates more slowly; therefore nutrients are not as available so new skin cells are replenished less often. In the same way, waste products are removed more slowly; therefore the skin can look puffy due to water retention.

Skins over 40 are considered an aging skin, characterized by: puffiness under the skin, dark circles under the eyes, under eye bags are quite visible, hair growth on upper lip and chin that darkens with age.

AGING SKIN ANALYSIS

Pores: Skin goes through significant changes with aging and pores tend to become more visible around nose, chin and apples of cheeks, sagging open, even though skin is dry in appearance.
Texture: Fine lines and wrinkles are more noticeable, becoming deeper, generally dry to extremely dry, prone to red blotchiness and uneven pigmentation.
Sebaceous Activity: Insufficient production of sebum, combined with patches of dehydration on cheeks and forehead.
Visual Analysis: Complexion can look dull and dehydrated, has a tendency for broken capillaries under eyes, around nose and cheeks; skin can appear loose, especially under eyes and along jaw line.

DRY SKIN ANALYSIS

Pores: fine – almost invisible.
Texture: appears taut, fine and even translucent; susceptible to premature aging due to insufficient sebum and moisture; skin can feel tight and even rough due to dryness.
Sebaceous Activity: lacking sebum (oil production).
Visual Analysis: looks generally healthy; creamy makeup goes on easily, powders can look patchy. Tendency to dry patches and some roughness in dry areas, relating to seasonal changes in temperature and humidity.

MENOPAUSE SKIN ANALYSIS

Pores: Skin goes through significant changes with peri-menopause possibly causing pores to become more visible, some acne in the hormone region of the chin, or too seemingly shrink overnight, excess oil, excess dryness, and up and down fluctuating psyche.
Texture: Decreased or increased production of sebum which can occur rather rapidly, combined with patches of dehydration on cheeks and forehead, combined with hormone-induced active acne on the chin and jawline.
Sebaceous Activity: Insufficient production of sebum, combined with patches of dehydration on cheeks and forehead. May experience a temporary burst of excess oil as hormones change.
Visual Analysis: Complexion of face and body can change rapidly to either dry or oily. Much discomfort can come from fluctuating hormones effecting skin and emotions with hot flashes and creepy crawling itchy skin.

NORMAL SKIN ANALYSIS

Pores: fine - medium; may have small areas of enlarged pores on apples of cheeks, nose or chin
Texture: firm and smooth, even texture and coloring
Sebaceous Activity: neither too dry nor too oily, well balanced - may have light patches of oiliness, particularly in the T zone
Visual Analysis: makeup looks smooth and lasts well; may experience minor breakouts related to a "big night out", hormones, or stress. Watch for any premature aging under eyes as this area tends to need more moisture due to lack of sebaceous (oil) activity; may experience rare breakout relating to hormonal cycle.

SENSITIVE SKIN ANALYSIS

Pores: Skin goes through significant changes from allergic reactions possibly causing pores to become over or under active.
Texture: Combined with patches of dehydration, redness, itching, rashes, and small bumps.
Sebaceous Activity: underproduction of sebum (oil production) to overproduction.
Visual Analysis: Complexion of face can change rapidly to either dry or oily. Much discomfort can come from welts or hives, itching skin to watering eyes.
