Inter-Cellular Matrix

The skin's inter-cellular matrix is a jelly-like substance in which the cells of our lower skin layers float.

The skin's matrix may sometimes be referred to as glycosaminoglycans.

The matrix is essential for the support of the collagen and elastin fibers which give skin its bounce and resiliency.

The production and maintenance of glycosaminoglycans, and the inter-cellular matrix, is dependent on dermal hydration.

Moisturizers are usually only epidermal hydrators and do not exert any therapeutic effect by themselves.

Exceptions include the Hydrators which utilize moisturizing ingredients as a base (or delivery vehicle) for scientifically studied active ingredients (importantly these are integrated at the same concentrations as studies).

Most skin does not carry its ideal moisture level, however dry and dehydrated skin, and in particular the dry skin of smokers, are particularly affected.

For this reason, with all other factors being equal, drier skin types will age more rapidly than other skin types and skin aging is mediated by dermal hydration levels.

The quickest and most effective means of raising dermal hydration levels is with Hydrators and daily use of Serums.

The loss of glycosaminoglycans from the skin weakens the supportive inter-cellular matrix and results in loose, flaccid and generally unfirm skin, both on the face and body.

Essential fatty acids, implemented internally and topically in skin texture treatment, as well as anti-aging skin treatment using low-glycemic index foods, will increase dermal hydration.

In all cases a combination of internal and topical skin care is required for noticeable results.

Combination supplementation of essential fatty acids and anti-aging skin treatment will produce thicker, smoother skin with more resilience and turgidity than would otherwise be the case.
