NUTRITION FOR THE SKIN

Protein
Builds new cells and new skin. Protein is one of the few substances we must ingest. We cannot make up our own protein. Vegetable protein means less toxic substances. Less hormonal disturbances. Less cholesterol. Less acid. Longer cell life.

Minerals
The proper balance of all nutrients including important trace minerals. Your body cannot produce minerals, they must be provided in your diet. Foods that are not organically grown are low in minerals.

Vitamin C
For collagen construction and tissue integrity and resistance to infection. A deficiency of "C" or protein can contribute to wrinkles and sagginess! Sufficient "C" will help with resiliency environmental pollution and stress destroys "C". Deficiency can increase allergies and skin problems.

Vitamin E
Delays aging process. Deactivates free radicals and tones muscles. Improves elasticity, increases circulation. Protects cell membranes. Assists body in utilizing oils. Relieves itchiness. Leathery skin may be improved by "E".

Lecithin
Plumps skin. Beneficial to nerves and thereby skin functions. Some have found lecithin to be helpful in eczema.

Omega 3
EFA and lecithin help to provide essential fatty acids. Your skin needs oils to stay soft and supple, especially if you are on a low fat diet. Some find EPA helpful in psoriasis.

Zinc
Healing factor. Helpful with immune system and acne. Collagen manufacture slows down without zinc.

Colon Cleanse
The skin is one avenue of elimination of toxins. Insures proper elimination so that the skin has less of a work load.

Carotene
Remember, beta carotene is a precursor of vitamin A, essential for healthy skin. Powerful combination of anti-oxidants that help reduce free radical damage.

IF STAYING YOUNGER LONGER IS PART OF YOUR MISSION THEN THE FIRST THING TO CONSIDER IS YOUR NUTRITION! A good analogy that everyone can relate to: you can have a mint condition, fully restored, historical value Rolls Royce, but if you run it on watered down gas... ;)

WATER
It was with great surprise when I discovered from my first colonics with Barbara, our colon hydrotherapist, that my colon was dehydrated, atonic, and the healthy bacteria level was very low. And here I thought I was drinking enough water and eating right and trying to stay away from sugar...my skin was moist, lips weren't chapped, cuticles were smooth... but the insides were not functioning properly.

Then my dearest daughter gave me a book entitled "You're Not Sick, You're THIRSTY" and wow, did that open up a whole new world for me. The amount of water one must drink every day is grossly underestimated. And the root of illness begins with long term accumulative dehydration.

Experts are advising to forget the bottled water at the grocery store, between the chance of it being city water and the leaching from the soft plastic, you are better off:

* use a Brita water filter system at home and then store this double filtered water in it's canister or in

* the polycarbonate plastic containers, Whole Foods and health food stores sell this dense blue-tinged harder plastic that does not leach.

LIFESTYLE
After extensive research, and personal experience, it is quite obvious that most of us do not:

* drink enough filtered water each day
* eat enough organic greens, raw fruits and veggies
* have a healthy level of good intestinal bacteria
* have a hydrated clean colon with good tone
* stretch and exercise enough

Thus, I am now recommending certain supplements that will help balance us. Once I started in on the supplements and drinking much more water, walking with stretching, and regular chiropractic care, I am now experiencing:

* energy, oh my word!
* my skin is receiving more compliments
* the arthritic??? pain in my right hip is gone
* much less shortness of breath with coughing
* a smile has replaced the intermittent depression
* the peri-menopausal??? foggy brain/forgetfullness has greatly diminished
* the constant low backache has eased up considerably, hardly even pop Advil now * no more oh-so-bothersome life restricting stress incontinence

DIET
Our diets need to be geared to our metabolic type. Which type are you? Take this metabolic typing test to find out which you are so that you can shop and cook accordingly.

Natural Daily Medicines for Skin: avodaco, apple, papaya, banana, berries, date, fig, orange, asparagus, beans, cabbage, carrot, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, broccoli, brussel sprout, chives, radish, strawberry, raisin, leek, garlic, parsley, capsicum, currant, peach, apricot, grape, and sunshine.

EXERCISE
Our brain and body both need exercise daily. Once I started this regimen, I dropped 10 pounds and wasn't even trying:

* first thing in the morning, MOVE for 10 minutes, this awakens your metabolism and sets it for the day
* 20 minutes after eating take a 10 minute walk
* walk for half an hour 3-4 times a week, no need to break a sweat
* stretch and move for a few minutes several times a day especially with sitting jobs
* don't sit for longer than 45 mintues without getting up and moving steadily for a few minutes and focusing on a distant object to exercise eyes
* rapidly thump your upper chest to awaken the thymus gland if feeling sleepy
